Why Aviva Fitness Challenge

Why is Aviva Health involved?

Studies investigating sports participation and physical activity levels in children show that 86%* of young people in Ireland is failing to meet the current physical activity recommendations, meaning that less than 15% of 10-18 year olds in Ireland is meeting the Department of Health and Children physical activity recommendations of at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity daily.

The Schools Fitness Challenge 2015 aims to build on last year’s programme, inviting secondary schools throughout the country, to join us in highlighting the importance of fitness to our future health and to make increasing physical activity a national priority.

Schools Fitness Challenge 2015

Our Goal
Our goal is that young people will adopt a healthier and more active lifestyle, which will positively benefit their long term health.

The Challenge
he challenge will be overseen and assessed by exercise physiologist Dr. Sarah Kelly and by the Schools Fitness Challenge creator and sports scientist  Professor Niall Moyna from the School of Health and Human Performance in DCU.

Positive Experience

Ensuring the Schools’ Fitness Challenge is a positive experience for schools, teachers and students is very important to us. Fitness for enjoyment is central to the initiative. We want to help improve fitness levels and increase awareness about the importance of being fit in Ireland. The goal of Aviva Health’s Schools’ Fitness Challenge is to reward schools for taking part and not to highlight or embarrass schools, teachers or pupils. We will contact the winning schools directly before announcing the winning schools.

Register your school for the challenge by clicking here before Saturday 17th January, 2015.
