Going To The Health Screen Centre

An annual health screen is a really good way of checking up on your health, revising your lifestyle habits and generally staying in control of your health.

Why not do our quick online health check first for a review of your health before you go for the real thing?

You can choose a Standard Health Screen (a bit like an NCT for your car) which will give you a really good general evaluation of where you stand regarding your health and general lifestyle. This typically takes about 1.5 hours.

An Executive Health Screen will include additional tests - it's more like a full service for your car. This will give you a more in-depth indication of your health profile and takes about 2.5 hours.

Don't worry, none of the tests hurt and there are no side effects. For more information on the types of tests available, how they are carried out and how to understand the results, please visit Health Screens - The Tests.

How to book your health screen

You don't need a doctor's referral to go for a health screen. It's a choice which is completely within your own control. We provide health screens through Charter Medical Group and EHA nationwide. You can find the centre nearest you under the lifestyle section of our Search Provider area. Once you've found one that's handy for you, just ring up and book a time that is convenient.

In advance

You may be asked to arrive fasting in advance, depending on the type of blood tests requested. Make sure you ask about this when booking your health screen as test results could well be invalid if you have eaten too close to the examination. If you are asked to fast before your tests, why not bring a snack to have afterwards?

Do I need to bring anything?

It's a good idea to bring your Hibernian Aviva Health membership card as this will help with filling out your claim form and speed up your claim. You should also bring along any medical records or recent test results you have, as this will help the staff to build a more detailed profile of your health.

If you have any questions or concerns about your health, why not write out a list and bring it along with you? There is nothing worse than forgetting to ask a question that is important to you.

It's also a good idea to wear comfortable loose clothes as you may have to roll up your sleeve, open buttons etc.

What happens when I'm there?

When you arrive, the staff will complete some paperwork with you. You will also be asked about your medical history, your lifestyle, your occupational history and your family history. It may sound like an awful lot of questions, but it's simply to help the staff to compile your full health profile. You would be amazed at the factors that affect your health so the more questions that are asked, the better the chance of uncovering something important.

At the end of the health screen, you will have a lifestyle consultation where your health profile will be explained to you. You will be given details of the improvements you can make and of any follow up that is needed, such as a visit to the G.P. or optician. Again, the golden rule applies - if you're unsure of anything, ask as many questions as it takes to satisfy any concerns you may have.

After your health screen

A complete written report will be sent on to you with detailed results of all the tests and consultations you had. This is confidential and for your eyes only but you can request that it is send to your GP too if you wish.

Finally, you're the person with ultimate control over your health, so it's up to you to follow up on any recommendations made for improvements to your health and lifestyle. You don't have to do this alone, though - we're right behind you every step of the way.

If, for example, you need to make further visits to a dietitian to help you with a healthy eating plan, remember that we cover a wide variety of health and alternative professionals on our day-to-day plans too. We also give you money back for Allen Carr smoking cessation courses if you need to beat the weed once and for all.

How to claim for your health screen

When you have your health screen, you will be provided with a claim form. All you have to do is complete it and send it to us with your receipt and we will send you a cheque for the amount due.

Health screens are also covered on our day-to-day a and day-today 50 plans. So if you have a day -to-day plan which includes a health screen, we will add this amount to the above benefit and it will be included in your cheque. Couldn't be easier.
